Broadband Ready
While we are encouraging our landlords to make their homes " broadband ready, it may be necessary to purchase / rent additional equipment to access a broadband service, where the landlord has not yet purchased the necessary equipment
Those properties which are "broadband ready" are identified by the following logo on their property details:
Modems
To access the internet from your computer you need an active telephone connection, a modem, and a computer with sufficient memory and the necessary software to access the internet.
Some computers have modems already built into their systems others require a separate modem. Depending on the connection you require ( Broadband or Dial Up ), you need to have the correct type of modem to work with your broadband connection.
Depending on how you wish to work, you can also have a choice of fixed line or wireless modems. A fixed line modem connects via cable to your computer. A wireless modem transmits the connection anywhere within the property and as a policy Again Broadband recommends 802.11g wireless modems @ 108 mps - providing faster transmission rates and greater reception range.
Again Broadband works using telephone lines supplied by British Telecom. Therefore make sure that the telephone line provider is British Telecom. Sabbatical Homes will check before any order is accepted that a broadband service from Again Broadband is available for the property.
Micro Filters
A micro filter is a small plug which is fitted to all telephone sockets where a broadband modem is connected. This simple device prevents interference from the voice telephone line, and MUST be fitted to all telephone sockets. Usually the modem is supplied with one/two micro filters, additional filters may be required.
